2001-2002 Season

PLEASANT VALLEY BRUINS TOURNAMENT (11/04/01)

Jimmy picked up 2nd Place in the 10 & under 94 lbs division!    He scored a first period pin in the semifinals to the Wyoming Valley West wrestler who beat him three years ago in another tournament but lost to a tough 10 year old from Walnutport in the finals.

2000-2001 Season

STROUDSBURG TOURNAMENT (03/04/01)

Jimmy picked up First Place in the 8 & under 85 lbs/heavyweight division!    He scored a 15-0 techfall in the quarterfinals.  Because there was only one heavyweight wrestler, they combined the two divisions.  I was concerned the weight difference would be a problem but experience prevailed as Jimmy scored a 1st period pin in the finals.

NAZARETH TOURNAMENT (02/18/01)

After getting a wake-up call by losing his first match, Jimmy came back to pin his next two opponents in the consolation rounds to pick up the 3rd Place trophy.

NORTHWESTERN MATCH (02/04/01)

Jimmy finished the regular season on a positive note, having his way with a lighter NW wrestler.  As is the case in many exhibition matches, it's hard pairing up wrestlers in the same weight class.   Jimmy had ten pounds on this boy and finished him off quickly with a Cement Job.  "Get that head up!"

PENNRIDGE/BETHLEHEM MATCH (01/28/01)

Jimmy had to wrestle a teammate since the three other teams could only manage a dozen exhibition wrestlers.  Here he good technique in setting up a headlock.

UPPER PERK BLUE MATCH (01/20/01)

Jimmy slips in a half before he hips over for three Nearfall points.

SOUTHERN LEHIGH MATCH (01/07/01)

Jimmy switches off a Navy ride as he works up for Nearfall points.

QUAKERTOWN EXHIBITION TOURNAMENT (12/16/00)

Jimmy got two good matches in beating the Upper Perk Blue wrestler 9-2 but dropping a close one to PAL, 10-8.

It was a disappointing turnout by the exhibition team with only 13 out of 44 wrestlers showing up.  The others missed a great opportunity to gain experience against new wrestlers of their same level.

NORTHERN LEHIGH MATCH (12/10/00)

Jimmy got tossed around a bit this weekend but faired well with a slightly heavier (+10lbs) wrestler.

LEHIGHTON MATCH (12/03/00)

Jimmy met Lehighton's JV 85 pounder in an exhibition match, pinning him in the second period.  Jimmy took him down and used a "chin-back" for some nearfall points.  A "cement job" in the second period put an end to the contest.

BANGOR TOURNAMENT (11/18/00)

Jimmy was seeded second in the 9 & under 82 lbs. weight class and wrestled the "sixth" seed who was obviously underseeded.  Jimmy dropped this match 9-0 to the eventual tournament champ.

In the consolation round, Jimmy met a Pen Argyl wrestler who was warming up by bouncing off the padded walls in the gym!  He looked good in warm-ups with quick practice takedowns and aggressive moves but looks can be deceiving.  I told Jimmy to "go out there and attach".  "Look to take him off balance and use whatever he gives you".  Jimmy proceeded to drive for a takedown but wound-up locking up with the boy.  Jimmy saw an opening and threw a flying cement-job on his man.  It was over with a fall in 40 seconds with Jimmy coming back to take Third Place!

PLEASANT VALLEY TOURNAMENT (11/05/00)

Jimmy wrestled Bantam heavyweight (85 lb max) in a round-robin of three wrestlers and took First Place!

The Wyoming Valley West wrestler managed a take-down in the last seconds of the first period and rode Jimmy out in the second period.  The third period saw Jimmy take control by using a chin-back after his man sat out.  The boy put hands to Jimmy's face so Jimmy just switched to a reverse half decking him in 2:28.

Jimmy met  the Back Mountain wrestler in the finals.  After grappling for a few seconds Jimmy circled to the left then used an upper-body throw to pancake the boy to the mat for a 16 second fall and First Place
