Jimmy on the mat '98
1998-1999 Exhibition Team"You haven't wrestled, 'til you wrestled a bear!"
1998-1999 SeasonJimmy did great in his second year of wrestling, capturing 1st Place in the Stroudsburg Tournament, 2nd Place in the Bangor Tournament and 4th Place in the Southern Lehigh Tournament. The Bangor Tournament was particularly frustrating in that Jimmy was ahead 14-2 with 20 seconds left. He was in the down position and escaped but instead of keeping his distance for the win he went for the old 'headlock' and got cought and was pinned with 7 seconds left! I was more disappointed then he but he gets cought up in the excitement of the match and forgets where he is at.
Jimmy On The Mat '98-'99PV Bruins Open Tournament - 11/1/98Jimmy met a tough opponent and lost by technical fall 23-3 to the eventual 2nd place winner. Palmerton Tournament - 11/7/98Jimmy placed 5th after fighting a hard match losing 7-3 to the eventual 2nd place winner. Bethlehem Bulldogs - 12/7/98Jimmy wrestled two exhibition matches. Both of his opponents were first year wrestlers and he pinned both of them at least six times each. Jimmy is still muscling his opponents with headlocks and upper body throws. I'm still trying to get him to work on his double leg takedowns. Quakertown Exhibition Team Quad-Meet - 12/19/98Jimmy was lucky enough to wrestle three matches. He pinned his first opponent in 7
seconds with his "unauthorized" headlock. His second opponent proved tougher,
with Jimmy dropping a 7-0 decision. Jimmy dropped his last match 5-4. With 10 seconds
left, Jimmy was attempting an escape from the bottom position when time ran out. Bangor Novice Tournament - 12/27/98Jimmy received the First Place Medal for the 6 & under 60lb weight class! There were seven wrestlers in the division and Jimmy pinned his first opponent in53 seconds! His second opponent was the top seed and Jimmy pinned him in 35 seconds! Jimmy met the second seed in the finals and won 7-4, his first win bypoints. This is Jimmy's first true tournament Championship since the Southern Lehigh match was an exhibition win. Liberty - 1/10/99Jimmy pinned another 2nd year wrestler but since it was exhibition, the ref had them continue. We have about 35 first year wrestlers in addition to the 40 or so non-starting wrestlers, so our exhibition team is huge. Liberty's two 75lbs and 80lbs exhibition wrestlers got a real workout wrestling our upper weights about four times each! I try to make sure each of our exhibition wrestlers gets at least one match but given our numbers, some must wrestle their own teammates. Late January MatchesJimmy and I were out of school and work respectively for over a week with the flu. I will try to update information missing in this time period soon. Click on the links below for more photos. I will hot link them from their respective descriptions above when I get a chance. Miscellaneous Pix... |
